Asiwaju Bola Tinubu To Be Invested As Chancellor Of LAUTECH
The Convocation and Investiture award and lecture will take place in the SIFAX Lecture Theatre within the premises of the University in Ogbomoso starting from 11am on Wednesday April 23rd, 2014. The occasion will be the 11th (special convocation) ceremony of the University.
Maya Angelou appointed Honorary Global Ambassador for Mandela International Film Festival
Angelou wrote and recited a poem in honour of Nelson Mandela at the time of death. She met Mandela in the 1960s when she lived in Cairo. In her poem, His Day is Done, Angelou mourns Mandela’s death, praises him as a modern-day David who slew a mighty Goliath and a Gideon, who freed the South African people.
Dr Maya Angelou, playwright, producer, director, best-selling author, civil rights activist, educator and historian accepted the role of Honorary Global Ambassador of the 2015 Mandela International Film Festival.
This event will take place in the Eastern Cape in December 2015 and is expected to be the biggest film festival in the southern hemisphere.
Living in a shack won't inspire the poor: Malema

EFF leader Julius Malema on Tuesday claimed he could not inspire the poor if he was living in a shack himself.
"We don't want them to stay in shacks, that's why we can't stay in shacks," he told reporters in Johannesburg.
"How are you going to inspire them when you are also going to stay in a shack?"
Malema said it was stupid to think otherwise.
"We don't have to stay in Alexandra [north of Johannesburg] to liberate people of Alexandra.
"They want to get out [of] that situation, they don't want people to come and join them. That's stupidity to think like that," he said.
Malema has been criticised for his lavish lifestyle despite claiming to be the voice of the poor.

Manchester United is one of the richest football teams in the world, but its performances on the pitch this season under David Moyes could dent its balance sheet.
Revenue at the club for the year to 30 June 2013 was £363m. That was an increase of 13% on a year earlier.
Manchester United also reported a net profit of £146m for 2012/13.
But the club fell one place in world football's rich list, being pushed into fourth place by Bayern Munich.
That did not seem to be of immediate concern to the Glazer family, the majority shareholders in the club, when accountancy firm Deloitte published its annual Football Money League.
But to Manchester United's 660 million fans worldwide, it was the consequence of several years' failure to invest in the club.

students, and residents. The ambassador explained the importance of

and the relevance of the civil rights leader’s ideas to the surrounding
area, which had recently been racked by riots. Then, standing in front
of a colorful, just-completed mural of Martin Luther King, Jr., Rivkin sang “We Shall Overcome” with dozens of African and Muslim schoolchildren.

Apostle Helen Ukpabio "witch hunter" Deported And Banned From The UK
The 'witch hunter' who wrote in her book ‘Unveiling The Mysteries of Witchcraft’, that "If a child under the age of two screams in the night, cries and is always feverish with deteriorating health he or she is a servant of Satan", was deported last week after campaigners called on UK Home Secretary to deport and ban her from the UK for leading the spread of witch hunting in Nigeria, especially amongst children, some of whom have suffered torture and even killed.
Helen, who was in the UK on tour to promote her belief in witchcraft and offer help to those ‘under threat’ from the wizardry, was not only deported, there are also reports that she has been banned from entering the UK until further notice.

Nobel peace laureate Desmond Tutu warned Sunday that the Central African Republic was "on the brink of genocide", as he urged warring sides to reconcile their differences and "re-learn to live together".
"Over the past 13 months, the nation's seemingly incessant struggles for political power and resources have degenerated into anarchy, hatred and ethnic cleansing -- the country stands on the brink of genocide; some would say it has already commenced," Archbishop Emeritus Tutu said in a statement released by his peace foundation.The former French colony, one of the poorest countries in the world, plunged into a crisis after a coup by the mostly Muslim Seleka rebels in March last year.

spoiling for war against alleged plans by some party leaders to

candidate.
The Visioners for New Lagos, VNL at the weekend vowed that it would resist what it alleged as attempts by the party hierarchy to foist a former accountant-general of the state, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, as the next governor without due process.
However, the assertion was immediately challenged yesterday by the interim spokesman of the state chapter of the APC, Mr. Joe Igbokwe who told Vanguard that assertions of imposition credited to the immediate past governor of the State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu were the figment of the imagination of the group. He said that serious decisions on Lagos are collectively taken by a group of elders and not solely by Asiwaju Tinubu.

When you are sleep-deprived, you struggle to think straight.
Increased workloads and 24-hour access to the internet have created a world that rarely sleeps. The statistics are staggering. One 2011 survey by the Mental Health Foundation found that more than 30% of Britons suffer from insomnia or another serious sleep problem. You might think that not getting a good night's sleep simply leaves you a bit grumpy; in reality, the effects can be far more damaging.

The critics and obituary writers will reach for the right genre to apply, probably converging on "magical realism" – that way in which the everyday, the vernacular, relates and expands through some drawn-back veil of consciousness to the extraordinary and the questions that propel, or sanction, human existence.
