Kanye West Hires Andy Warhol’s Cousin to Paint Kim Kardashian

Kanye West may never be able to buy an Andy Warhol painting of his modern-day JulietKim Kardashian, but he has secured the next best thing — a portrait of his soon-to-be bride painted by Andy’s cousin, Monica Warhol.

The rapper has reportedly commissioned the Tucson, Arizona-based artist, whose silk-screen works are similar to Andy’s, to paint his lady love.
“She’s an icon,” Monica told Page Six of her new subject, Kim K. “She’s famous for nothing. Andy would have loved her. Kim is beautiful. She’s so manufactured. She looks like a human Barbie.”
While Monica has never actually met Andy, who died in 1987 when she was only 10 years old, she does share his characteristic style of silk screening works from photos.
“I never studied Andy. I never owned a book about him until about a year ago,” she said. “My grandfather and Andy’s father were brothers. My Aunt Betty took me to the cemetery every week, where we’d pray over Andy’s grave, because my aunt said he was pretty flaky and was probably in purgatory.”
For Kanye, obtaining a giant portrait of his bride-to-be seems like a logical enough next-step for his relationship with Kim. The rapper is, afterall, all about over-the-top declarations of love. Case in point? The couple’s engagement.
