PDP Alleges Massive Corruption in Lagos

The in Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed grave concern over the rising local debt profile of the state government put at N193.44 billion despite the high Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) put at about N27 billion monthly.

The state PDP Chairman, Mr. Tunji Shelle, who raised the issue yesterday while addressing PDP loyalists during the party's end of the year general assembly, urged Governor Babatunde  Fashola to publicly address the issue and some other sundry issues raised.

"We have some questions for Fashola. They are subsisting questions because they bother on public trust and his own integrity.

"The ongoing trial of the state Speaker, Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, by the EFCC over money laundering. We are very confused about governor's indifference to this serious allegation. We hereby call on Kuforiji to step aside pending the determination of his trial.

"In similar vein, the cases of some council chairmen and several others who have cases of graft with the EFCC must follow same action. If the governor fails to take a stand, then our conclusion will be that he is actually shielding them from prosecution," Shelle said.

The party said Fashola should explain the rationale behind the disappearance of the controversial Sunburn Yatch, which it said was "floated miserably on the Marina water," after gulping N8 billion, and which was eventually sighted in Thames, England.

“There was also the issue of the two state government helicopters said to have been acquired to combat  crime from the N120 billion Lagos State Security Trust Fund, which was alleged to have been converted to private commercial use in the Niger Delta.”

However, a source from state government, who spoke unofficially and who preferred not to have his name in print said the allegations raised by the PDP had been consistent with the party and that it was the political strategy being adopted to get the peoples’ sentiments.
