Obasanjo Bars PDP NWC Delegation From His Residence
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo Thursday barred the delegation of the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from his residence in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The delegation was led by the National Auditor of the party, Mr. Adewole Adeyanju, along side with the state executives of the party including the Chairman, Mr. Bayo Dayo, Pegba Otewolu, Waliu Oladipupo, Alhaja Nike Oguntola, Mrs. Bose Ogunleye, Wuraola Arojo and Zak Oyekunle.
The delegation, who were meant to honour the former president on his birthday anniversary on Wednesday, were prevented from entering Obasanjo's house by the security men.
One the security men, who came to brief the delegation, said: "Baba has no appointment with your delegation and Baba said you should drop any gifts you have for him at the security post."
However, the leader of the delegation who was looking disappointed and angry with the reception he received at the residence of the former president, spoke with THISDAY saying: "All I know is that when they (security men) went in, they came out to say baba said he was not in."
He said: "You know baba is an old man and he is our baba and you know how elders behave, so I don't want to believe that maybe he was not dispose but I think I have come to deliver the message of the National Chairman and he has collected those materials for his birthday."
He said state matters prevented them from attending the birthday programme on Wednesday, saying "we were to come here by plane but because of state assignment, we couldn't come and that is why I was asked to lead a delegation."
While eulogising the former president at 77, he said baba still had things to do for this country, saying he (baba) should give thanks more for the grace God has given him. He added: "I thank God for him, he his enjoying good health so I wish he still has more services for Nigeria and for PDP."
