Mariah Carey is back, ladies and
gentleman! Not that she'd been away for very long, but after releasing a
few singles last year, she finally confirmed what lambs had been dying
to know - the official release date for her next studio album.
In an exclusive online teaser, Mariah revealed that her next album, entitled The Art of Letting Go is set to release on the 6th of May.On Saturday, Mariah performed her newest single, You're Mine, which is set to feature on her upcoming album, at the BET Honors 2014. You're Mine will be releasing today but you can hear the live version of the track in the Soundcloud box below. The single is an emotional ballad, lyrically similar to her smash hit Always Be My Baby. In fact, the whole song is very vintage Mariah, but not in a good way. It seems as if she's chopped themes and concepts from her most succesful songs and blended them altogether to try and make it seem like she's created something new.
The vocal melodies, for example, sound a lot like those from her 2008 track, Touch My Body. We've already touched on the lyrics but even the backing track sounds similar to Don't Forget About Us or We Belong Together. Has Mariah run out of original ideas?
We'd forgive her if she had. She's been on the scene since the lates '80s and has delivered hit album after hit album in that time, becoming one of America's greatest musical exports. However, we think that it's time she hung up the mic and made her way to the retirement home - that is Las Vegas where the likes of Cher and Celine Dion continue to attract crowds and raking in the dough.
