ISIS: Behind the Headlines By Annemarie Smith
When it comes to politics, we vastly underestimate the power of vocabulary. The words our leaders use to describe political phenomenon are charged with preconceived meanings, and it is often on these preconceived meanings that citizens vote.
In no political situation is the impact of vocabulary more apparent than the growing threat of the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq(ISIS). When it comes to defining the political nature of ISIS, the international community faces—very literally—an inexplicable situation.
Corporations rob Africa of its resources, dignity and people By Nomonde Nyembe and Wandisa Phama
Food for thought: As young black women from the Southern tip of Africa, we were excited by the notion of being in the same room where many influential African leaders sat, spoke, decided on the state of the continent and formed the Organisation of African Unity.
We were taking part in the African Regional Forum on Business and Human Rights, hosted by the UN and AU, in Addis Ababa. This forum is intended to allow Africans the opportunity to voice their views on the human rights impact of corporations’ activities on the continent.
As we sat in the room, we could not help but consider the calibre of African leaders who have occupied the same room, including renowned and revered Burkina Faso President, Thomas Sankara. In 1986, shortly before his assassination, Sankara made a powerful speech telling African heads of States to unite against paying foreign debt.
Julius Malema "Try me now not 2015"
EFF leader Julius Malema is ready to stand trial, he told hundreds of supporters in Polokwane following the postponement of his court case on Tuesday.
"I tried to plead with them that I should be separated... and tried alone," he said.
"If others are not ready I am, the State must bring this case closer."
The trial against Malema and his co-accused was earlier postponed in the High Court in Polokwane to August 3, 2015 because not all counsel were available.

South Africa must find peace over Nigeria calamity By Aubrey Matshiqi,

IT HAS been more than two weeks since 84 South Africans perished at the Synagogue Church of All Nations in Nigeria and their mortal remains are still not home. Perhaps it is the fact that the bodies of the 84 South Africans are still in Nigeria that I have found confusing about the manner in which the people of this country have responded to this calamity.
