Yes you read that right. Men need baby showers too, after all they’re also responsible for making the baby. Gone are the days of just handing your guy friend, a cigarette and a slap on the back when he’s expecting. These days the guys can go all out too.
Man baby showers can be referred to by many names the most popular being manshower, dadchelor party or diaper party. Just like a mommy baby shower the objective here is to celebrate the new life and give advice to the dad- to- be. One thing that’s different though is that at a manshower, the father –to- be can drink alcohol.Diaper parties are normally simple affairs filled with games and advice. They can be thrown by the father-to-be’s partner or his friends. Here are a few games that happen at manshowers :
Baby bottle drinking: Fill a few baby bottles with juice or beer and see who can drink the fastest.
Diaper change competition: have a couple of dolls and get the father to be to compete with experienced fathers and his friends on who can change the dolls diaper the fastest.
Pack the diaper bag challenge: See who can pack all the baby essentials in the shortest amount of time.
Toy build: The guys can assemble a baby toy and see who does it the fastest or the father can assemble a crib and see how fast he can do it.
Here are some ideas for gifts you can bring to a manshower:
New dad survival kit ( Daddy toolkit) : Fill a bag or basket with emergency items for him and baby such as nappy rash cream, diapers, baby lotion, baby shower gel etc.
Printed Tshirts: a fun gift to give would be printed tshirts with various cheecky slogans such as “ Man behind the bump” “Drinking for three” “Papa or Dad est. 2015” or whichever year the baby will be born etc.
Acessories: You can get new dad keychains, engraved jewellery, mugs etc.
The man baby shower is certainly about having fun but it’s also a place where the Father to be can speak to other fathers about his fears, and ask for advice from other men about being a father. It is a very new tradition which we hope grows over the years. If the idea however is too much for you, there is always the option of having a co-ed baby shower.
