Eritrean government has allegedly posted a memo saying any man or woman who contested this law will go behind bars. The post is said to have explained the law by saying the country is experiencing shortage of men.

So, every man has to marry two women and the one who refuses will be prisoned for life with hard labour.
"The woman who tries to prevent her husband from marrying another wife shall be punished to life imprisonment," says the translation of the memo posted by the Eritrean government.
