Bauchi lawmaker, Hon. Yakubu Dogara has been elected as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, defeating his main challenger, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila from Lagos state.
In the hotly contested race, Gbajabiamila polled 174 votes while Dogara got 182 votes.

His victory will come as another setback for the leadership of the All Progressives Congress which had earlier endorsed his opponent, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Earlier in the day, Bukola Saraki had also emerged as Senate president against the APC’s wishes.

Even worse, a PDP senator, Ike Ekweremadu, was elected as deputy Senate president.
