A series of events will be held across the world today to mark the first
anniversary of Boko Haram’s abduction of 219 schoolgirls in northeastern
Nigeria.
The commemoration and renewed calls for their release came as the charity Amnesty International said the jihadists had kidnapped at least 2,000 women and girls since the beginning of last year.
Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, will be leading the global day of ceremonies. A vigil has been held demanding the girls’ release almost every day since they were kidnapped. Elsewhere there will be marches.
