Celine Dion has put her showbiz career on hold for an “indefinite” period of time so she can care for her ailing husband.
The 46-year-old has not only put her Las Vegas residency on ice, but she has also canceled her Asian tour in order to care for husband Rene Angélil, who had a “cancerous tumor” removed late last year.
Celine made the announcement on her website Wednesday:

“I want to devote every ounce of my strength and energy to my husband’s healing, and to do so, it’s important for me to dedicate this time to him and to our children.”
It’s been a tough year for Celine and her family. In addition to Rene’s illness the singer has faced her own health problems.
According to the statement posted on her website the singer has “been fighting an illness that has caused inflammation in her throat muscles, and has not been able to perform any of her scheduled shows in Las Vegas since…July 29th.”
Meanwhile Rene, 72, was originally diagnosed with throat cancer back in 1999.
Earlier this year he stepped down as Celine’s manager – a role he has held since she was a child star growing up in Canada.
Wednesday’s statement revealed that it has been a “very difficult and stressful time” for the couple who are battling his illness while raising their children – Rene-Charles, 13, and three-year-old twins Eddy and Nelson.
Celine, who was due to tour Asia in the fall, said:
“I also want to apologize to all my fans everywhere, for inconveniencing them, and I thank them so much for their love and support.”
