Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) will be approaching the High Court to appeal against the 14-day suspension from the National Assembly.
Speaker of Parliament Baleka Mbete this week served the 25 EFF MPs, including leader Julius Malema with letters announcing that they would be placed on suspension for 14 days unless they write letters stating why they should not be suspended.
Mbete has suspended the EFF members following their behaviour in Parliament last week after staging a protest demanding President Jacob Zuma to “Pay Back The Money” spent on upgrading his private Nkandla homestead.
“We will be approaching the High Court to apply for an urgent interdict against the suspension,” Julius Malema said today.
“The reason for this is, they want to call [President Jacob Zuma] to answer questions during our 14 day suspension,” said Malema.
Malema told reporters in a press conference that EFF members would be responding to the letters received individually.
"We don't believe there is any basis for such a suspension. So we are all 25 of us going to approach the high court individually," said Malema.
