Two Injured As Explosion Rocks Delta Speaker’s 2015 Campaign Meeting

The governorship ambition of the Delta State House of Assembly Speaker, Victor Ochei, hit a violent snag earlier on friday as an explosion went off during a political meeting he was presiding over at Obomkpa, Aniocha North local government area.
The explosion, suspected to be a bomb blast, left two persons with severe injuries. A source identified one of the injured as a female personal assistant to Bishop Ken Ebolum of Dominion Christian Center, Asaba. He added that the two victims were rushed to the Delta State Teaching Hospital, Oghara, for treatment.
Several eyewitness sources said that chaos broke out as soon as the suspected bombs exploded, with the speaker and other scampering for safety. One of the sources disclosed that the speaker had arrived in Obomkpa to inaugurate his political group, “Otumowane,” in preparation for the 2015 general elections. His close associates have revealed that he has indicated an interest in running for the governorship.
All efforts to contact the speaker proved abortive as he did not answer his mobile phone.
A police source said that an Assistant Commissioner of Police from the Delta State Police Command immediately mobilized a team of police officers to the scene.
A citizen reporter tried to contact a police spokesman, Lucky Uyabeme, but failed as Mr. Uyabeme neither picked up calls nor responded to text messages to his mobile phone. However, a police source confirmed the event. The source revealed that one John Oyibo Achuzia Ijeh has been arrested and is being interrogated at police headquarters in Asaba, the capital of Delta State.
