Crimea Proves that Great Power Rivalry Never Left Us : Foreign Policy

How should the United States respond to Russia's annexation of Crimea? That depends on the answer to two related questions: Does the Crimean annexation presage a new era of Russian imperialism in its near-abroad? More broadly, is the international community entering a new era in which great power coercive diplomacy supplants the supposedly rules-based liberal world order that the United States and its allies have painstakingly attempted to build over the last 70 years? If the answer to either is yes -- and, unfortunately, it probably is, with qualifications -- then U.S. policymakers need to do a much deeper rethinking of their national security strategy.

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer may have put the kibosh on working from home last year and received attention for a performance review system that ranked employees on a curve -- just as Microsoft was dumping that much-hated approach. But that hasn't stopped her from getting a 79 percent approval rating from Yahoo employees, making her one of two female chief executives to place among the 50 most popular CEOs of large U.S. companies, according to Glassdoor.

The career Web site is out with its 2014 listing of the country's best-rated CEOs, according to ratings that were part of company reviews on Glassdoor over the past 12 months. Mayer came in 49th, barely squeaking into the top 50, but she's in good company. The top five include the list's No. 1, LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner (who clocked a 100 percent rating), as well as Ford's Alan Mulally (97 percent) and Costco's Craig Jelinek (95 percent).

MTV Africa Music Awards heading to Durban

Singer Wyclef Jean, who was one of the attendees of a previous MTV Africa Music Awards ceremony.

THE MTV Africa Music Awards are coming to South Africa for the first, since they launched in 2008, it was announced in Durban this afternoon.

The ceremony will be held in the coastal city come June 7, at the ICC.

Eligible music videos must have been released between March 20 last year, to March 19 this year.

Alex Okosi, the MD of MTV Networks Africa, said: "We've been working at it for a while now [organising a follow-up to 2010's show].

Mary Konye Sentenced To 12 Years In Prison For Acid Attack On Nigerian Naomi Oni

The jealous girlfriend who threw acid in the face of Nigerian girl Naomi Oni while wearing a veil as a disguise in December 2012 has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for the vicious attack. Mary Konye, 22, (pictured left) was sentenced today March 21 at Snarebrook Crown Court in the UK. Naomi, also 22, was not in court for the hearing today

Zuma is 'innocent until proven guilty': ANCYL

President Jacob Zuma is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, the ANC Youth League said on Friday as the country celebrated Human Rights Day.

"We would be happy if the rights of all can be respected, including the right of President Jacob Zuma to live in a safe dwelling and to execute his duties in a secure environment," the ANCYL's national convenor Mzwandile Masina said in a statement.

"We remind those who think they are the masters of law to remember that all South Africans are equal before the courts... and all South Africans are innocent from any wrongdoing until found guilty by a court... not a Chapter 9 institution led by a person with a hidden agenda."

Central African Republic hatred at terrifying level

Bangui - The UN's rights chief on Thursday expressed horror at the level of violence in the Central African Republic, citing cannibalism, child decapitations and gruesome lynchings.

"The inter-communal hatred remains at a terrifying level," UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay said at a press conference in Bangui.

Putin signs bill completing annexation of Crimea as sanctions take hold

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday signed legislation to complete the annexation of Crimea, a defiant step a day after President Obama expanded sanctions against the Russian leader’s top aides and reputed financial associates.

The signing followed the unanimous passage of the legislation in the Federation Council, the upper house of the Russian legislature, and came just hours after the first signs emerged in Russia of the bite from U.S. sanctions.

MAN UTD "DEAL DONE" FOR £80M PSG STRIKER CAVANI

Manchester United have agreed terms with PSG over a deal for Edinson Cavani, it has been claimed.

Richard Keys, from Sky Sports and talkSPORT, has declared in his blog that United have a "done deal" for the Uruguay international.

"Edison Cavani is a done deal - if they can persuade him to sign. It'll cost £80m to get him out of PSG.

"But will he want to join a team that might not even be playing Europa Lge (sic) football?"

Cavani's agents were in London three weeks ago for talks with interested clubs, which included United and Chelsea.
