Federal Court Declares Collection Of Toll On Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge Illegal.

According to a report by Sahara Reporters, a Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, today nullified the collection of any toll or tariff on the Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge.

Ruling on the suit, which was filed by human rights lawyer, Ebun Adegboruwa, presiding judge, Justice Saidu, J. held that the power of control over all navigable waterways in Nigeria resides in the Federal Government, and not any state government.

The state has proved enough for Oscar Pistorius to have to explain his actions on the night he killed his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, legal experts say.

Tomorrow, Pistorius is expected to testify as to why he fired four shots at a locked toilet door in his luxury Silver Woods Estate home, near Pretoria.

His defence is that he opened fire, in the early hours of Valentine's Day last year, after mistaking Steenkamp for an intruder.

The state has closed its case.

ANC Northern Cape chairman John Block believes that walking with President Jacob Zuma is like walking with God, according to a report.

"[Zuma] you are the only candidate we have for the elections. We are already talking about the future [beyond May 7] because we are not walking this path alone, sihamba nomfundisi [we are walking with a priest]," he was quoted by The Star newspaper as saying.

Cape Town – EU ambassador to Zimbabwe Aldo Dell'Ariccia has reportedly said that only those with a role to play in meetings at the forthcoming EU-Africa Summit in Belgium next week had been invited.

Dell'Ariccia said this following a report by The Herald on Tuesday that the European Union had denied President Robert Mugabe's wife Grace, a visa to allow her to travel alongside her husband.

A Sapa report on Wednesday said the Zimbabwe government indicated it would boycott the summit if Mugabe's wife was not granted a visa to travel with him.

 More satellite images have given searchers the latest clues in the hunt for the downed Malaysian jetliner, as planes flew out of Australia on Thursday trying to spot 122 objects seen floating in the turbulent Indian Ocean where officials believe the missing passenger jet may have crashed.

Almost two-thirds of the 239 people who died on the flight were from China, and the first search plane in the air was a Chinese Ilyushin IL-76 aircraft.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — Humanity thought it had tuberculosis beat.

The dreaded “consumption,” one of the world's oldest diseases, had plagued the ancient Egyptians and ravaged 19th-century Europe and North America. New drugs in the 1940s made it possible to beat TB at last, and the number of cases plummeted.

Fast-forward a few decades. Virulently drug-resistant strains of TB have emerged, treatment has not kept pace, and the disease is again on the rise, infecting more than 8 million people a year.

In South Africa, one of the hardest-hit countries, tuberculosis is the leading cause of death, responsible for 1 in 10 deaths in 2011 and killing an astonishing 54,112 people country-wide, the country's statistics bureau said last week. The second leading killer that year was influenza and pneumonia, with some 20,000 fewer deaths.

Geneva - Egypt's mass sentencing to death of 529 alleged supporters of ousted president Mohammed Morsi is a breach of international human rights law, the United Nations said on Tuesday.

"The astounding number of people sentenced to death in this case is unprecedented in recent history. The mass imposition of the death penalty after a trial that was rife with procedural irregularities is in breach of international human rights law," said Rupert Colville, spokesperson for the UN high commissioner for human rights.
