There’s a new Game of Thrones book coming out and once again, it’s not the next installment in the A Song of Ice and Fire series. But wait! Before you start writing threatening letters to George R. R. Martin for spending his time doing things other than writing The Winds of Winter, we should let you know that GRRM had little to do with this latest book, which is an inside look at the show.
The book is Inside HBO’s Game of Thrones: Seasons 3 & 4, and is written by Cat Taylor, who runs the show’s official production diary, Making Game of Thrones. The book does feature some contributions from GRRM, along with show-runners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, but it’s Taylor who did most of the legwork in this latest companion book to the series.
The book is being published by Chronicle Books, and is officially licensed by HBO, so you know it’s good. It's filled with "over 192 full-color pages" featuring lots of behind the scenes info about the production of Seasons 3 and 4 of GoT, which align roughly with the action-packed book A Storm of Swords.
According to HBO, the book will give fans an up close and personal look "at the creation of the show's award-winning visual effects, never-before-seen set photos and breathtaking production and costume designs, as well as in-depth examinations of key scenes and insight about the plot and production from the show's cast and crew."
If you were hoping to get some behind the scenes insights into Season 4 ahead of time, you’re out of luck, as the book won’t hit shelves until this fall, when it’s expected to retail for $40.
