Premium lager, Star, on January 1st drew the crème de la crème of Nigeria’s artistes, with some of the biggest names in the music entertainment industry witnessing what was arguably the largest toast in Africa. The event, one of the special highlights of the second annual Countdown held at Eko Atlantic, Victoria Island Lagos. More pics after cut...
The symbolic toast to usher in the new year was anchored by the Corporate Affairs Adviser Nigerian Breweries Plc, Kufre Ekanem with Funke Akindele, Funmi Iyanda and a bevy of other guests who had the audience raising their glasses to toast 2014 as the giant LED clock on display struck midnight.
The special toast was done with a purpose-designed Star Magnum bottle which popped as the clock ticked midnight. Hundreds of thousands of Lagosians, tourists, music fans and celebs clicked glasses and sipped on Star, as happy new year wishes took over Eko Atlantic.
Artistes who witnessed the event include D’banj, Tuface, M.I and Ice Prince Davido as well as Burna Boy, Timaya, Banky W, WizKid, Omolara, Ara, Ozzy Bosco, Waje, May D, Tunde Ednut, CEO Dancers, Reminisce, Show Dem Camp, General Pype, Skuki, Eldee, Sasha, Skales, JMartins, Bez, Orezi, Seyi Shay, Ketchup, K/Switch, and many more.
Africa’s favourite rapper M.I stunned fellow label mate and multiple award winning rapper Ice Prince when he joined him on stage to perform his hit classic “Aboki’ at the Lagos Countdown powered by STAR which held at Eko Atlantic Victoria Island Lagos on the 31st of December 2013.
"I’m wishing you a great year ahead, the popular rapper chorused repeatedly, 2014 is your year,” he emphasised to the audience as he joined Ice Prince on stage.
The tables turned easily as the prolific rapper enjoined Ice Prince -who set aside his regular ‘chains’ and jeans for a classy ice blue caftan-to stay on stage after his own act.
The exciting duo went on to perform for over 30 minutes some of M.I’s classic songs such as Action Film, Undisputed Champion and African Rapper (No 1) and others to the delight of the teeming crowd before bowing off the stage.
Stellar performances from each artiste rivalled the pyrotechnic fireworks for effect as each artiste strove to ensure that guests enjoyed every minute of the almost 12 hour event.
The Lagos Countdown ended with a sensational performance by fast rising artiste, Burna Boy.
