President Goodluck Jonathan has cancelled his trip to Chibok where more than 200 schoolgirls were abducted from their hostel on 14 April.
President Jonathan was scheduled to visit the town before leaving for a conference in France.
BBC News reports that the trip was cancelled because of security threats.
Boko Haram's leader recently released a video demanding a prisoner swap.
The government has rejected the Islamist sect's request.
The incident has caused a global outcry and a number of countries have offered military assistance.
