Tribute: Brenda Fassie, 1964-2004, The Queen Of African PoP

Born in langa, Capetown in  November 1964, she was maned after the American singer Brenda Lee. Brenda arrived in Joburg in the early 1980s and joined the band Joy and became the lead singer for Brenda and the Big Dudes.
Her years of huge hits include, weekend special, too late for mama, her platinum album memeza, vulindlela and noma kanjani. She was described by the Times Magazine as the Madonna of the Township.
She died at the young age of 39 of an overdose of cocaine at Sunnighill hospital in 2004.
Today the world remembers a legend.
