President Jacob Zuma (@SAPresident) is Africa's third most followed leader on Twitter, according to the 2014 Twiplomacy report by PR company Burson-Marsteller.
The most followed African leader is Uhuru Kenyatta (@Ukenyatta) with 456,209 followers, and Rwanda's Paul Kagame (@PaulKagame) is in second with 404,332.
Zuma shouldn't feel too bleak about his performance though - despite the fact that he only has 325,733 followers the South African presidency itself (@PresidencyZA) came in fourth with 243,115.
Put those together and he is back in the lead.
“Twitter has become one of the most powerful communication tools and provides a direct line to our leaders. World leaders might not necessarily read the tweets addressed to them, but their teams certainly monitor the Twitter activity,” Matthias Lüfkens, Burson-Marsteller’s EMEA Digital Practice Leader and author of the report said in a statement.
