Introduction:
TEE-JAY is a talented, vibrant House/Dance singer and songwriter who hails from Carletonville, west
of Johannesburg.
He began showcasing his vocal talents at the tender age of six, which was highly influenced by his
upbringing in a big family which loved and appreciated music. Growing up, Tee-Jay aspired to be a
musician and he soon became part of a Boys Choir in primary school, and later in high school where
he also became the choir master. He was always known for his husky and soulful voice which later
earned him local fans in his township.
Growing up in the township of Khutsong in Carletonville with no exposure and facilities to help him
get to where he needed to be, he later faced challenges to pursue his music career on a professional
level. He would then be lucky enough in his 20s to make friends with local producers with bedroom
studios and it was there that he was able to record demos and try to break into the music industry.
Career History
Tee-Jay began featuring on various local up-and-coming Producers/DJs and began getting recognition
in his local surroundings and that gave him the confidence to audition for the popular talent search
show SA Pop Idols in 2013. Having been selected as part of the Top 30 aspiring talents on SA Pop
Idols, Tee-Jay began gaining a sustainable fan base countrywide and gained the necessary
experience. Even though he didn’t win Idols, he didn’t lose hope of breaking into the mainstream
music industry, he began recording more songs and features which became available in digital stores
(iTunes, Amazon, Traxsource, Beatport) and also got an opportunity to perform in various music
events across the country with the likes of Mafikizolo, The Soil, Emtee, Kwesta, Black Motion, Da Les
& more.
In 2015 he entered another Talent Search competition by popular Setswana speaking radio station
Motsweding FM, and was one of the Top 5 finalists.
In February 2016, he was signed to renowned record label FRQNCY MUSIC and finally released his
debut single “THE DREAM” which received positive reviews countrywide and internationally, also
playlisted on major radio stations in Southern Africa, spending 4 weeks on Botswana’s renowned
radio station Yarona FM’s Groove Chart. His forthcoming debut album “GLOBAL SOUL” is due early
2017.
There is no doubt that Tee-Jay is destined for greater things.
